When things are hard

When things are hard the intuitive response is to ask for help or to blame everything else. We get in our own heads when we blame everything or everyone, and many times need to actually look at ourself and how we need to grow in order to get through the hard times.

A great way to start with getting through the hard times is the serenity prayer. An excerpt reads:

God, grant me the serenity

to accept the things I cannot change

the courage to change the things I can

and the wisdom to know the difference. --Reinhold Niebuhr, 1892-1971

We ask God to give us the serenity, or peace, to be realistic with our lives. Be realistic with what you can reasonably change in yourself, the things you cannot change about others or events, and know that God is with you to guide you to understand the difference.

Say this prayer as a start to your continually daily conversation with God. Be sure to talk with God as you go through your day to find the joy in knowing He is with you. Things are hard, but we can get through them.
